Frisian sports on computer game Wii, april, 2009 (A-MN)

Frisian sports lovers can soon play typical Frisian sports as skating, keatse (bouncing) en fierljeppe (pole high jump) in their own Frisian language at the Nintendo Wii. The Province of Fryslân supports the Frisian company Grendel Games, which currently translate the Frisian sports to computer programs of the Japanese games giant. In this way the Wii will be used to promote the Frisian language. And as with the current generation Wii games, a player itself must make the right movements to win the virtual Frisian sports game.

Also for sms on the mobile phones there is now a special Frisian language program. The Province of Fryslân hopes that the Frisian people will use their language more and more.
Therefore they have extra funds available for language promotion; also for example companies that want to use the Frisian language for websites, their products, or signs and promoting campaigns. The Province of Fryslân hopes that especially supermarkets, banks and restaurants use the coming years more Frisian. Goal is that at the end of this year 25 companies will use more Fries and that 500 companies use Fries on their website.
